ABOUT TINY HANDS TALK TO ME
Baby Signing Time Instructor, Linda Schmackpfeffer, Owner of Tiny Hands Talk To Me.
After nearly 30 years in the beauty industry, I was looking for a 2nd career. For years deep down in my heart I knew I wanted to work with babies. But I wasn't sure in what capacity.
In 2004, a couple years into my search for my new career, I became a grandma again, to a delightful little baby boy. When our grandson was about 18 months old, his parents had him seen by early intervention. Long story short, we found out he was a healthy little guy, but was delayed in his speech. The first thing his parents and speech therapist did was teach him some ASL signs so he could communicate. At first I was skeptical, but within days I saw an amazing change take place. The frustrated toddler had turned into a happy little boy who could finally communicate his wants, needs and emotions! Shortly there after he started to talk. We were thrilled!
My daughter and I did some research and found out that using ASL signs with hearing babies and toddlers was not only helpful for pre verbal communication, but it also provides numerous benefits for the child as he/she gets older. I found no down side to sighing with hearing babies and children. It was a win-win situation. I was sold!
My grandsons experience inspired me to start a new career in 2006 as a Baby Sign Language Instructor. I was certified by Kindersigns and I opened my business Tiny Hands Talk To Me. In 2010 I applied for and was accepted by the Signing Time Academy. I received additional training from STA, and I have been a Certified Baby Signing Time Instructor ever since.
My mission, and my passion, is to share with parents and caregivers how something so easy...as learning a few simple ASL signs... can have such a lasting impact on their children's lives. I teach a variety of Baby Signing Classes,in private and public locations. I teach parents, families, small groups and large groups.
